Swedish Massage

This is the relaxing, stress-reducing type of massage most people think about when they want a massage. Swedish massage includes gliding, kneading, and striking strokes as well as friction strokes, stretching, joint movements, gentle shaking, and rocking. Generally, Swedish massage is full-body and is very relaxing and has therapeutic benefits. Swedish Massage technique can also focus on one area of the body such as the back if that is the client's desire. Swedish Massage sessions are typically 1 hour to 90 minutes.

The classic form of full-body massage relaxes the body, improves muscle tone and circulation, eases muscle aches and tension. Long flowing, kneading, and milking strokes are used to gently release the body from tension and stress. This is a gentle massage and should not be confused with "deep tissue" forms.

Esalen massage is similar to Swedish, except that usually involves long, lengthening strokes, stretching, and rocking, mostly at a comfortable pressure. Both Swedish and Esalen massage primary body focus is with the muscles.

Esalen massage resembles Swedish Massage but is set apart as a unique style because it also reflects an attitude about touching, caring, and energy awareness, as well as emotional and spiritual healing. Esalen Massage uses long, body-length strokes which requires the draping to be moved aside in order to facilitate a smooth technique. It is wonderful for those more comfortable with massage and their bodies.
